HENDAK GAGAL ATAUPUN BERJAYA??

Papa John's founder pays $250K for beloved Camaro

Tue Aug 25, 8:21 pm ET

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – With the help of a $250,000 reward, the founder of the Papa John's pizza chain has finally reunited with the muscle car he sold years ago to help keep his family's business afloat.
John Schnatter sold the gold-and-black 1971 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 for $2,800 in 1983. The money helped save his father's tavern in Jeffersonville, Ind., and he used the rest to start what would become a worldwide pizza business.
But he still missed his beloved Camaro and spent years searching for it. He created a Web site on the search, held promotional appearances and eventually offered $250,000 to whoever found it.
It turns out he didn't have to leave Kentucky, where the pizza chain is based in Louisville. The car only changed hands twice from the original buyers, ending up with Jeffery Robinson in Flatwoods, about 165 miles to the east.
"When I first saw it I still wanted to look it over to make sure it was the car even though I knew it," Schnatter told The Associated Press. "That kind of hit me emotionally. I was kind of numb."
The original buyers of Schnatter's car heard about the search when he appeared in a TV interview before an NFL game this month. An online search led them to the car blog Jalopnik, which has followed the search and tipped off Papa John's.
Robinson, who bought the car about five years ago for $4,000, recently delivered the Camaro to Schnatter, earning the $250,000 reward. The original buyers will get $25,000 for their help tracking it down.
Schnatter says it looks very much the same as it did when he sold it in 1983, but with a larger motor and fatter tires for drag racing.
The car will be displayed at the company headquarters in Louisville, replacing a replica Schnatter commissioned while he searched for his original car.
In honor of the reunion, Papa John's planned to offer all Camaro owners a free pizza at stores on Wednesday.

Three range

Good news for the environment - the BMW 320d is now greener than Al Gore's flip-flop. Thanks to the eco wizards over in Germany, the cleanest-ever version of the 3-Series trumps out just 109g/km C02 and delivers 68.9mpg.
That means you'll pay just 35 quid a year in road tax while still enjoying the car's 163bhp and 0-62mph time of 8.2 seconds. It's all thanks to the geeks who were let loose on the car - fiddling around with the engine and aerodynamics, doing things we don't understand. But we're told the new ‘centrifugal pendulum absorbers' and altered rear axle transmission ratio are big news in the world of boffindom. All we know is that you'll do far less damage to the planet as a result. Of course, the marketing people had to go too far and describe the 2.0-litre diesel as ‘mellifluous', which after a brief consultation with a thesaurus, we found to mean ‘smooth and honeyed'. We suspect, however, it will sound much like a diesel engine. Albeit a quiet one.

Lambo Murcielago LP670-4 SV

Posted by Tom Ford at 12:06 pm on Tuesday August 25, 2009

The SV is not a subtle car. As soon as it appears, childish you starts jabbering and capering about in your head: ‘Look! It’s got a massive wing! And look, the exhaust is a lozenge-shaped cave… And it’s so BIG, and WIDE and NOISY and orange’. You are reduced to a state of pure gawp.
It’s what a supercar should be: utterly enthralling. You can’t take your eyes off it, in case it does something amazing, like explode, or transform into a helicopter gunship.

Drive it, and the SV gets even better: a proper dramatic treat. This isn’t Casualty, it’s King Lear with machine guns and real bullets. This is how supercars used to be in the glittery and inaccurate halls of my memory.

Being honest, 12-year-old me wants all supercars to be huge, wide, dramatic things that make people fall over and girls wave and smile even when you’re fugly. Noisy, immature, socially irresponsible. Massively expensive. Metallic orange with the big wing pack.
But there’s a problem: thirty-plus me needs a car that delivers. Middle age brings feelings of self-worth based around exactly how damn fast this thing is. There would be nothing worse than having all the flame-spitting gurning if the SV wasn’t devastatingly, rub-your-nose-in-it, sod-off-and-die fast.

But it is.
It’s one of the few cars on the planet that can wear that rear wing, eyeball-searing Tango paint, be wider than a Victorian terrace and still have more trouser than mouth.
Inside it’s all carbon fibre and transmission tunnel, generous slathers of alcantara and something… else. Intimidation. Whiffy fear. The nose dips away in front, the glassy lozenges stacked across that rampant V12 flick light out back. It’s pure theatre and the better for it.
Twisting the key produces a whirr replaced suddenly by a revvy bark. Heads snap around and little boys point. Good. That’s what I’m talking about.
And when you watch the Stig going hard, you see the car’s rear-biased four-wheel drive understeering slightly, then monstering to power-oversteer.
In fact, we had trouble getting the Stig out of it. We had to threaten to burn him out, by the end.
Suffice to say that everything you hope the Lamborghini Murciélago LP670-4 SV might be, it is. Which, when something makes this many visual promises, is a very big compliment indeed.
Watch Stig lapping the TG GP ‘09 cars: Aston Vantage V12, Ferrari 599 HGTE, KTM X-Bow, Porsche 911 GT3, Nissan 370Z, Renaultsport Clio 200 Cup and Audi R8 V10.

G.I. Joe Will Not Be Political

The background of the whole G.I. Joe mythology, which dates back to World War II, plus all of the military activity (outfits and such…) we’ve seen in the footage released so far, suggests some sort of political angle within the movie. Well, according to producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura, that’s not the case:“This G.I. Joe has nothing to do with American foreign policy. It’s about a team of skilled operatives fighting an evil organization that’s trying to take over the world. There are no politics in it at all.”Also, when comparisons were brought up between G.I. Joe and Transformers, Bonaventura weighed in with an objection:“Actually, we were working on a G.I. Joe movie long before we did Transformers and our Joe isn’t based on the animated series–it’s based on the comic books that came out in 1982 and 1983.”You wouldn’t expect a G.I. Joe movie that looks as silly as this one does to be chalk full of intelligent commentary on the political world of today. However, it may be expected that politics would play at least some part in it, even if isn’t a major one. It’s kind of encouraging to hear they are going at it as a purely “fun” and action type of movie that you’d want to see - I’m pretty sure the audiences that have been wanting a live-action G.I. Joe for years now aren’t heading to the theater in the hopes for a political lecture.

Mysterious Toy Story 3 Character Revealed

About a week ago, director Pete Docter revealed that a new "Toy Story 3" character is hidden in one of the scenes of the new Pixar "Up" movie. He said: "There's a shot where a little girl is in her room and the house goes by. She's playing with her toys. She's playing with her little plane. She gets up, and she looks [out the window] . under her bed is one of the new stars of 'Toy Story 3'. You have to look close." Many took a closer look at the scene that appears in the "Up" trailer and found several items under the bed, including a teddy bear, slippers, a potato chip and a carpet. Now, PixarCollector has confirmed with their sources close to Pixar that the Teddy Bear is the new character. And he has a name. It's Lotso.

Daughtry Puts the Whammo on Jacko

E! Online, Jul 22, 2009 3:40 pm PDT

American Idol might need to bring Chris Daughtry back for a belated coronation.
The brooding rocker failed to make it to the winner's circle in season five, but his namesake band is now a two-champ where it counts—on the album charts. Having previously topped the charts with his 2006 eponymous debut, Daughtry repeats the feat this week with Leave This Town selling over 269,000 copies, per Nielsen SoundScan.

While this gives him bragging rights on the Billboard 200, Daughtry also moved more copies than Michael Jackson's top-seller, Number 1s, giving him the week's undeniable No. 1 album. Jackson's discs are only eligible for the Catalog chart, but he managed to outsell the Billboard 200's No. 1 album each of the previous three weeks.

Who's bad indeed?
Number 1s was still the No. 2 best-seller overall with 192,000 copies, and Jackson continues to dominate the Catalog chart taking up the top 12 slots. Billboard even announced this week that Thriller has likely already surpassed the Eagles' Greatest Hits 1971-1975 as the top-selling album of all time.

Topping the King of Pop is no easy feat these days, but Daughtry also joins the tiny group of American Idol contestants to have a successful second album. Typically, Idol stars like Ruben Studdard, Clay Aiken and Taylor Hicks debut big with their first albums, but they struggle to catch fire with their second. In fact, Kelly Clarkson and Daughtry are the only two Idol contestants with multiple No. 1 albums.

Says Daughtry, "We poured our hearts into these songs to make the record we've always dreamed about. To have people respond the way they have is extremely gratifying, but even more humbling."

With Leave This Town taking the top spot, Maxwell's BLACKsummers'night fell to No. 2 in its second week. Still, the R&B crooner stayed ahead of the three other albums that made Top 10 bows.

The week's next highest entry belonged the Dead Weather, which sold 51,000 copies of Horehound at No. 6. This new rock collaboration features Jack White (White Stripes, Raconteurs), Alison Mosshart (the Kills), Dean Fertita (Queens of the Stone Age) and Jack Lawrence (the Raconteurs).

Following close on their heels, R&B singer Joe sold 49,000 copies of Signature at No. 7 and lightning-fast rapper Twista sold 45,000 copies of Category F5 at No. 8.

With M.J. sales coming back down to earth, overall sales were down 7 percent compared to last week and down over 9 percent compared to the same week last year.

To recap, the Top 10 albums on the Billboard 200 were as follows:
1. Leave This Town, Daughtry

2. BLACKsummers'night, Maxwell

3. Hannah Montana 3 soundtrack, Hannah Montana

4. Now That's What I Call Music! 31, various

5. The E.N.D., Black Eyed Peas

6. Horehound, the Dead Weather

7. Signature, Joe

8. Category F5, Twista

9. Fearless, Taylor Swift

10. Only By the Night, Kings of Leon

20 Lazy Ways to Save Money

Katie Adams
Friday, August 21, 2009

This article is part of a series related to being Financially Fit

While the media can't decide if the recession is nearing its end or not, we do know that there hasn't been a tremendous surge in wages, job creation or the stock market. Consequently, most of us are staying pretty conservative on our spending. Here are a few relatively simple ways to keep an eye on your pennies while you're waiting for that brighter economic future to arrive.

1. Schedule automatic payments. Have (at least) your fixed monthly bills paid automatically to avoid missing a payment and having to fork over extra money for late fees and/or interest. You can set up auto pay features through your bank's online bill paying service or by arranging it directly with the company or service provider.

2. Eat your groceries. Did you know that Americans regularly throw away nearly 15% of the food they buy at the grocery store each year? That can add up to hundreds or, depending on your supermarket budget, thousands of dollars each year. Save money by actually eating what you buy. Not sure how? Bypass the bookstore and borrow a cookbook from the library!

3. Bundle services. If you're paying different vendors for similar services you may be overpaying. Call your communications providers to see what price you'll be quoted if you switch and bundle your internet, phone and cable TV services.

4. Pay off credit card. If you're not paying off your credit card balance each month you're paying interest and, for most Americans, it's a pretty steep rate. Pay it off and you could save a tidy sum by eliminating your interest charges.

5. Mark your calendar. Whenever you rent something - library books, videos, etc. – mark it on your calendar and save money by avoiding those quickly mounting late fees. Many stores and libraries also now offer email reminders to help the constantly harried so sign up for the extra help!

6. File your taxes on time. Or if you need to file an extension at least pay what you owe on the due date. You'll avoid annoying notices from the IRS and, more importantly, save on penalties, fees and interest.

7. Roll it over. If you're switching jobs and you can't leave your 401(k) invested with your current company, roll your 401(k) into either your new employer's 401(k) or an IRA within the 60-day window instead of withdrawing the money. By doing so you'll keep the money invested - and earning interest - and avoid those nasty taxes as well as the additional 10% penalty.

8. Switch credit cards. If you're carrying a balance on a high interest rate credit card check out other card issuers to see if you could transfer your balance to one with a lower interest rate and fewer fees. Use sites like
Creditcard.com or Bankrate.com to compare card rates, and pay careful attention to how long those terms last so you don't wind up paying a higher rate and erasing any potential savings.

9. Use your privileges. Are you an AAA member? Do you belong to the AARP? What about your local credit union? Check organizations you have memberships with to see if they offer buying privileges or discounts.

10. Rent instead of buy. You might be excited to expand your driveway but don't let your enthusiasm overtake good sense. Hold off on buying that jackhammer and think before you spend on big-ticket items or items that you'll use once or infrequently (like movies and books).

11. Buy instead of rent. Don't pay the exorbitantly high prices charged by rent-a-center type stores for items you'll use regularly and keep long-term like computers, furniture and appliances.

12. Ask. That's right, just ask. You can't be paying any more than you currently are, so why not ask if you can get the interest rate lowered on your credit cards or loans? Also, ask for a discount on services like your wireless phone, trash removal or pet care instead of switching to another vendor, and of course ask "is that the best you can do" on any big ticket purchases like cars, appliances and furniture. In a tight economy it might be worth the seller's while to cut the price instead of losing the sale, and you'll both benefit in the end!

13. Just say no. To the extended warranty that is. They hardly ever make financial sense. Weigh the repair or replacement cost (and if you would even need or want to repair or replace it down the road) against the cost of the warranty and graciously pass when offered.

14. Have the awkward conversation. Americans average more than $750 yearly on holiday gifts and that's probably much more than most would like to spend. If your gift-giving is costing you more than you can realistically afford there's a good chance it’s more than your relatives can afford (or would like to spend) as well. Take the plunge and broach the subject. Offer a more reasonable alternative (say, limit giving to children or put a dollar amount on gifts per person). More than likely your relatives will be grateful SOMEONE finally raised the subject and you’ll save money in the process.

15. Eat at home. If the idea of cooking for yourself seems like too much work at least opt for take-out instead of dining out - you'll save on the tip, the alcohol and most likely the cost for appetizers or dessert.

16. Balance your checkbook. It might take a few minutes but it's something you should be doing anyway and it can pay off huge dividends by helping you avoid bouncing a check and incurring steep overdraft fees (not to mention a little embarrassment)!

17. Stick with your bank. When withdrawing cash drive or walk the extra minute it takes to use your bank's ATM and avoid the fee that could come with another bank's machine. Better yet - switch to a bank that doesn't charge fees!

18. Use your TV. If you're paying for cable why not use all of it - and save some money in the process? Cancel the video membership and watch movies through cable movie packages you're already paying for or check out your free "on demand" shows. Drop the gym membership and work out at home to channels like FitTV, and bag the magazine subscriptions and watch the same shows (like Martha Stewart) on TV instead.

19. Quit those bad habits. Smoking, overeating and drinking are costly habits to maintain. Okay - this is the "lazy" way to save, not necessarily the easy way. But you can save boatloads of money in two ways by saying sayonara to your favorite vices: (1) You'll save money by cutting out on the regular spending it's costing you, and (2) you'll probably save on insurance premiums and long-term health costs. It's the ultimate win-win.

20. Forget the pet. Sure it sounds heartless but did you realize that welcoming home a little Fido can cost you an average of more than $1,500 a year - or $15,000 over 10 years? Feline fluffies are pricey too - just under $1,000 a year or approximately $9,000 for 10 years of care. Looking at the long-term picture, that's a new car or the down payment on a home! Keep walking right past that pet store and keep the money in your pocket instead. The recession won't last forever, but in the meantime take advantage of these lazy ways to stay on track financially, and develop some pretty good money management habits for the future!
